When rescuers Katie McKittrick and Idan Riek found Zuko, he was alone in a desert town, born with a deformity in both front legs and struggling just to move. But one cheeseburger, a gentle touch, and a lot of sweet talking later, this shy pup’s life took a major turn.
Zuko was carefully brought to Los Angeles where the amazing team at CARES, along with prosthetics expert Chad Marquis, got to work. Their mission? To build a custom mobility device that would protect Zuko’s joints and give him the gift of movement.
The video shows the magic moment: Zuko hesitantly takes his first steps in his new gear. He’s unsure at first, then starts high-stepping like a little champ. You can practically see the light come back into his eyes. “Look at you go!” one rescuer cheers, and she’s not wrong – Zuko is absolutely glowing with confidence.
This wasn’t just about walking. It was about giving a dog who’d been tossed aside a real shot at a happy, pain-free life.
Now, thanks to the folks at The Little Red Dog, Zuko has a forever home where he’s loved, supported, and finally able to explore the world like any other dog.
