A Den Turned into a Trap
Authorities believe the dog, having survived the recent earthquake, had dug a makeshift den to protect her newborn puppies from the elements. But the ground had been made unstable by aftershocks and tremors. The den collapsed in a sudden landslide, burying her and her puppies alive.
Buyumez, accompanied by a friend, didn’t hesitate. With bare hands and urgency, they began to dig, calling out softly to the terrified dog: “Come, my dear, come.”
Their determination paid off. The mother dog was pulled free—shaken, but alive. However, the work was far from over. Her puppies were still trapped beneath the soil.
One by One
Carefully and methodically, the two rescuers continued to dig. One by one, eight puppies were pulled from the rubble. It was a painstaking process that lasted nearly an hour.
Tragically, one of the puppies did not survive. But the mother dog and seven of her newborns were saved, thanks to the quick thinking and compassion of the two men.

Rather than leaving the animals behind, Buyumez took the entire family home with him. He’s caring for them personally until they’re strong and healthy enough to be adopted.
