A sad story out of Vancouver, Washington has captured attention online after a woman left her 13-year-old Labrador alone at a local park and drove away in her Tesla.

Caught on Camera

Security footage from a neighbor showed the woman removing the dog’s collar and ID before walking him to a trailhead at Orchards Park. Instead of going on a walk, she turned around and ran back to her car, leaving the confused dog—named Henry—behind.

The video was shared by the rescue group I Paw’d It Forward, who wrote:

“This woman thought the best way to get rid of a dog, was to take him to Orchards Park in Vancouver, WA tonight and leave him there to watch her drive off in her Tesla with Oregon Plates.”

Henry had been with her since he was a puppy.

Loyal and Left Behind

Henry didn’t wander off. He just stayed there, waiting – likely thinking his owner would come back.

Meanwhile, the woman was reportedly telling friends in Portland that her dog had passed away. But Henry was still alive, sitting alone miles away in a different state.

Thankfully, some parkgoers saw him and called the authorities. He was picked up by animal control and according and taken in for care.

Owner Identified

After the video spread online, tips poured in. Police were able to track the woman to her Portland home.

When asked about the situation, she said she “had no other choice,” but rescue workers weren’t buying it.

“She showed up in her Tesla and tried to spin a story,” the rescue group posted. “Eventually, she admitted to it – but showed no real remorse.”

She could now face misdemeanor charges and possibly civil penalties for animal cruelty.

No Excuse for Abandonment

An animal control officer stated clearly:

“Leaving your pet like this is considered cruelty.”

The woman claimed she couldn’t find a new home for Henry, but officials say there are always better ways to get help.

Shelters, rescue groups, and community resources can assist with food, vet bills, and rehoming if needed. Groups like the Humane Society offer support to pet owners struggling financially.

A Second Chance for Henry

While Henry’s story began in heartbreak, he’s now safe and being cared for at the rescue center. Though it’s clear he was hurt by what happened, he’s getting the love he deserves from people who truly care.

As the rescuers put it:

“No dog, especially one who’s been loyal for 13 years, should ever have to feel what Henry felt.”
